Mission

1

We promote and monitor our members’ employment conditions and copyright

We offer our members training, advice and peer support, especially in employment matters. In this work, union representatives and support persons at work play a key role.

We contribute to collective bargaining negotiations concerning our members. We work for the collective bargaining rights of the self-employed to ensure that minimum conditions are met.

We defend our members’ copyright interests in Kopiosto. In addition, we monitor and negotiate our members’ copyright agreements.

2

We influence communication policy and are active in the media landscape

We take an active position on issues affecting our industry and our members. We influence bills that are being prepared as well as other planned reforms.

We maintain constructive relations with key decision-makers, such as members of parliament and ministers.

We organize an open media seminar every two years where topical issues are discussed. We actively participate in the activities of media organizations and other actors, for example in the support association for the Council for Mass Media in Finland (Jusanek) and the Foundation for Media and Development (VIKES).

3

We work closely with the Union of Journalists in Finland and its member associations

We cooperate with the Union of Journalists, among other things, in labor market issues, lobbying and contractual issues, member recruitment and political advocacy.

We organize events together with other associations within the Union of Journalists and participate in international cooperation, including in the Union of Journalists’ international committee and Nordic networks.

We run the traditional and international Helsinki Press Club in cooperation with journalists in the capital region.

4

Together with our member associations, we influence the activities of the Union of Journalists in Finland.

We actively participate in discussions and decision-making within the UJF's Council through our council group.

We proactively submit council motions on issues we consider important and that promote the interests of our members.

RTTL is also represented on the Union’s Board, which is responsible for preparing and implementing decisions.

In addition, we work in the Union’s committees, which support the Board in the preparation of various matters.

5

We develop our communication and work to become better known

Our communication follows the union’s strategy and contributes to its implementation. Our communication increases general awareness of what RTTL is. We are open, active and operate in multiple channels. We use newsletters, websites, web articles, the newsletter that is published annually, and social media. We are present at industry events.

We communicate with our members about the situation in the media industry, various member events and current advocacy issues.

We take into account different target groups, offer meaningful and interesting content and want to reach new members with our communication. We are constantly developing our communication in order to serve our members even better.

6

We actively recruit new members by creating contacts with employees in the industry and students

We expand our support network to cover more workplaces in the media industry. We offer our members an opportunity to network with other professionals in the industry. We are in touch with students by communicating actively and participating in student events at audiovisual educational institutions and by cooperating with student organizations.

7

We offer our members peer support and a sense of community

We organize joint professional and social events to strengthen our members’ professional identity and sense of community. At these events, members can share their experiences, provide peer support and build networks. A good community spirit strengthens our members’ commitment to the union.

8

We offer our members opportunities for professional development in their field

We award grants to our members from RTTL’s own education fund for professional and individual development. Our education working group plans and organizes courses that are financed by collective copyright payments received from Kopiosto. We also cooperate with other member associations in the Union of Journalists to offer well-rounded education for our members.
